SUMMARY:"The Power of Knowing Each Other" - Release of New CLBC and FSI Resource (New Westminster)
DESCRIPTION:Community Living BC and The Family Support Institute invite you to join us in celebrating the release of our new resource book: The Power of Knowing Each Other: Stories about Informal Safeguards told by BC Families This book contains 12 stories plus a forward and concluding story about the creative and unique connections families have built and nurtured with their family members who live with a developmental disability. These relationships offer many things, all of which contribute to people living good and safe lives in welcoming communities. This resource is meant to inspire and stimulate people’s thinking on informal safeguards. The stories bring to the reader, wonderful ideas and ways to build supportive networks. These personal stories, told by families, demonstrate the incredible strength and love family members have for each other and how families have built informal safeguards in community, with their loved ones. SUMMARY:Building Personal Support Networks Workshop - Vancouver
DESCRIPTION:In 2007, CLBC funded four demonstration projects that examined ways of deepening and expanding personal support networks in the lives of people with developmental disabilities. In follow up to this work, CLBC partnered with Spectrum Society to develop a one-day workshop that is being hosted in communities throughout the province. Local agencies bring together people in their community who are interested in exploring this issue. This workshop is intended to create a dialogue on building personal support networks, and to expand on some of the lessons learned through the demonstration projects. Learn about the concept of a personal support network Hear success stories from other areas of the province and contribute your own ideas and stories Network with others in your community and learn about networking opportunities Generate solution-oriented steps and strategies for expanding relationships To learn more, please click here to download the flyer.

Where do we find motivation for creativity while we are also managing very real challenges: of ensuring we are meeting our contract expectations; understanding BC’s Employment Standards; learning what is expected of us from Canada Revenue Agency; etc. Meet others that are working through these challenges and learn about the ways you can balance greater flexibility with your role as an employer.
